National Honor Society Collects Items for Friends in Deed

The credo of the National Honor Society is community service and our members have always generously dedicated themselves to serving others in our community. Whether they arrive at school at 7:00 A.M. to tutor or stay after school long after all other students have gone, they cheerfully step in whenever there is an opportunity to be of service.

During this Christmas season, as in many previous years, our NHS members decided to lend a hand to those in need by hosting a food drive for Friends In Deed. Over the weekend of December 8, the members of NHS gathered at the Ralphs in Hastings Ranch to collect items including canned goods, cereal, peanut butter, and much more for the food pantry at the Pasadena-based non-profit. Friends in Deed is an interfaith organization that provides supportive services to meet basic human needs, so our homeless and at-risk neighbors can rebuild their lives.

As people entered the store, the girls politely asked shoppers to consider purchasing an item off a shopping list that would go to help make someone’s Christmas season a little bit better. Their enthusiasm and positive nature were so contagious that many passersby felt compelled to donate to the cause!

We at Alverno Heights Academy are very proud and grateful for the way our National Honor Society members represent our school in our community. Very well done ladies!
