Application Process

Alverno Heights Academy has a limited number of spaces available for domestic and international transfer applicants entering the 9th or 10th grades for the Spring Semester of the 2017-2018 school year. To learn more about these opportunities, please contact Ms. Sara A. McCarthy ’05, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, at smccarthy@alvernoheights.org as soon as possible.

The application for the 2018-2019 school year will be available in mid-October. 

STEP 1: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION

The application for the 2018-2019 school year will be available in mid-October. 

The Early Application Deadline, with an application fee of $75, is Monday, December 11. All that must be completed by this date is the “Application Form” and “Application Fee.” The remaining family items may be submitted until the Regular Application Deadline of Friday, February 2. 

The Regular Application Deadline, with an application fee of $100, is Friday, February 2. All parts of the family application must be submitted by this deadline. All families are required to interview with a member of the Alverno faculty or staff on Thursday, February 8. Interviews will be scheduled once all application pieces have been submitted.

STEP 2: ADMINISTRATOR, MATH, AND ENGLISH TEACHER RECOMMENDATION FORMS

Alverno requires that each applicant submit at least three recommendations for admissions. Each applicant must submit an administration recommendation form completed by your daughter’s head of school/principal, middle school director or counselor. The teacher recommendation forms should be e-mailed to your daughter’s current English and mathematics teachers. Additional recommendations may be submitted from a student’s pastor, academic coach, or other mentor.

All forms must be received directly from the recommender through the SchoolAdmin system. 

STEP 3: REQUEST A COMPLETE TRANSCRIPT FROM CURRENT SCHOOL

The Transcript Request Form Should be submitted to your daughter’s current school. The transcript must include her 6th, 7th, and first trimester of 8th grade. Transcripts (including Standardized Test scores) must be sent directly to Alverno Heights Academy.

STEP 4: Submit HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST (HSPT) OR INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM (ISEE) Scores (If Applicable)

All students applying to Alverno Heights Academy must take an entrance exam as a part of the admissions process. Alverno gladly accepts both the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) for incoming and transfer applicants. Please follow the directions below based on the exam you will be taking.

High School Placement Test: The HSPT is Alverno’s preferred entrance exam. Alverno will offer the HSPT on Saturday, January 20 and Saturday, February 3. The exam will include Alverno’s English Exam as well. Once the scores reports have been received, Alverno will forward your HSPT scores onto any other high school you wish to receive them. 

Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE): Alverno is happy to accept the ISEE from students who have taken the exam. Students who take the ISEE may do so at any school administering the exam. Please have the official scores sent to Alverno Heights Academy using our school code (053378). You may register for the ISEE through their website here.

STEP 5: ADMISSIONS INTERVIEW WITH A MEMBER OF ALVERNO’S ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, OR STAFF

Once your application is submitted, you will schedule an interview for a 30-minute slot on Thursday, February 8 between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Both student and Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will participate in the 30 minute interview.

NOTIFICATION Day: Friday, MArch 2

Once all application materials have been received and an interview has been completed, Alverno will review and make decisions during the month of February. Families will be notified by Friday, March 2 of their acceptance decision.

Admitted students will have one final opportunity to visit Alverno Heights Academy before making their enrollment decision. On Wednesday, March 7 we invite all of our accepted students and families to join us for breakfast with our students, faculty and staff and a Student and Parent Panel. The morning will last from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Students who are interested in attending classes that day may stay for an unofficial Shadow Day with an Alverno student. 

Commitment Deadline: Monday, March 12

Students who wish to enroll at Alverno Heights Academy for the 2018-2019 school year must submit their Enrollment Contract, Enrollment Commitment and Tuition Acknowledgement Letter, Scholarship and Financial Aid Agreement (if applicable), and $1,000 non-refundable tuition deposit by Monday, March 12

Please note that the tuition deposit of $1,000 is non-refundable and will be used as a credit towards your first month of tuition in June 2018. It may be paid by check or credit card.

Registration celebration: Thursday, March 23

Congratulations! You are officially a member of the Alverno Heights Academy family and we cannot wait to celebrate with you! Students and their families are invited to enjoy this celebration in the historic Villa del Sol d’Oro. You will learn more about the fall, your class, and be presented with any awards or scholarships you may have received at admission. 

alverno summer Institute: June 12 through july 12

All incoming freshmen and transfer students will be required to attend at least one week of summer school– June 25 through June 30— for their Academic Success Methods course. Students may also be required to attend other courses during the Alverno Summer Institute including math and/or English depending on their admission status.
