Dear Parents and Guardians,
In keeping with our school year theme of “Her-Story Starts Here,” I am excited to share with you some of the ways that Alverno Heights Academy is continuing to make your daughter’s story the center of our focus. Every decision we make is firmly rooted in our extraordinary mission, “to empower each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be.” You will see how Alverno’s commitment to its mission permeates all areas of growth and how your investment in your daughter’s education affords our students the opportunity to be at the forefront of leadership, innovation, and achievement in academics, the arts, athletics, and service.
Recent student achievements show how our students’ stories take center stage:
Seventeen seniors and recent alumnae were named AP Scholars by the College Board! Five members of the Classes of 2017 and 2018 were recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction and twelve members of the Classes of 2017 and 2018 were recognized as AP Scholars.
- Two of our seniors, Victoria Chen ’18 and Melody Wu ’18, were named National Merit Finalists placing them among the top 1% of the graduating class in the entire state of California.
Our Science Club and Honors Independent Research in Science (HIRS) class hosted the first ever “Science Night @ Alverno” in collaboration with Caltech Educational Outreach to overwhelming success with over 200 people visiting campus!
The Visual and Performing Arts Department put on one of our most well-attended and powerful fall plays in recent years with “She Kills Monsters” and they are preparing for the fun-loving production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” in April.
Our Cross Country team finished 3rd in the Horizon League Finals proving that the only way is up for this young team!
The Varsity Soccer team continues to dominate the Horizon League finishing second in the League with an 8-2 record and a spot in the CIF playoffs.
Campus Ministry and Christian Service continue to enrich the culture of our school community and promote the philosophy and mission of our school founders through wonderful projects like the Adopt-A-Family Christmas Project, Catholic Schools Week School Supply Drive, and more.
It is truly amazing to see the stories of these young women take shape. And we are well aware that no family gets to share in these experiences without significant financial contribution and sacrifice. For this, we are so grateful. While our annual tuition is based on a highly conservative budget balancing sustainability and program enhancements, know an investment in an Alverno Heights Academy education provides a high rate of return for you and your daughter.
We take this investment very seriously. Like any good steward of an asset we make significant investments in our students, programs and facilities. In recent months, we have:
- Opened our Learning Technology Center (LTC) which provides our students with a comfortable and flexible space for quiet study, collaborative work, large gatherings or a relaxing read.
Continued the hard work on our Athletic Fields Campaign, which will bring new regulation softball and soccer fields to campus as well as a practice running track. Although the campaign has not yet gone public, due to our generous donors, we have already reached 70% of our campaign goal of $1.25 million. The goal is to have the field complete by the end of 2018.
Invested in professional development for our faculty and staff through local and national conferences ensuring that our students are receiving an exceptional 21st century educational experience.
Created a special website for the Villa del Sol d’Oro to help bring in additional filming, photoshoots, and weddings, which all help to offset the cost of upkeep for this historic property.
Made plans to refine the school day schedule and assessed the overall curriculum to enhance the educational experience.
Yes, it is an exciting time to be at Alverno Heights Academy. In conversations with your daughter, I hope you will take time to marvel over this story from Alverno.
