Soccer: John Muir 0, Alverno 2

November 30, 2018 (Pasadena, CA) – The Alverno Jaguars battled the John Muir
Mustangs in a scrimmage game to a 2-0 victory.
The Jaguars’ offense pounced on the Mustangs early and often. Co-captain and senior
midfielder Megan Cavender (22), junior forward Nancy Alcala (14), sophomores forward
Alexis Alvarado (11) and midfielder Paola Munoz (21), and freshman midfielder Maille
Mansbridge (12) combined for 12 shots on goal. After a scoreless first half, Cavender
scored the winning goal in the 58th minute from an assist pass from Alvarado. In the
77th minute, Alcala scored an insurance goal as she dribbled past the Mustangs’ diving
goalkeeper.
The Jaguars’ starting backline of co-captain and senior Elisia Bendy (2), junior Danielle
Heltsley (15), and sophomores Helen Abascal (7) and Afton Okwu (13) kept the
Mustangs to only 2 shots on goal and allowed 4 corner kicks. With 2 saves, freshman
goalkeeper Mudi Edelberg (23) earned a clean slate.
The Jaguars (0-2) will next face the La Canada Spartans on Monday, December 3, 2018,
at the Duarte High School Winter Tournament.
