Introduction to Ms. Melissa Royal

July 12, 2019

Dear Alverno Heights Parents and Students,

I hope you all are enjoying your summer! I wanted to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself. My name is Melissa Royal, and I am the new Director of College Counseling here at Alverno Heights Academy. I am so excited and honored to be a part of this amazing community and I cannot wait to work closely with each and every one of you on your college journey!

Starting July 1, I will officially be a part of the Alverno Heights team and I will dive right into immersing myself in all things learning, planning, and organizing to get our Class of 2020 ready for their college applications. I’ve been very fortunate to spend some one-on-one time with Ms. Hoover before she embarks on her adventures to Wyoming, which has helped ease the transition into my new role immensely. I also bring to campus a wealth of professional experience in education, most recently overseeing a robust College Guidance office at an all-girls’ private school in Los Angeles. My experiences have exposed me to college counseling departments and university admissions offices around the country, providing me with a solid foundation of understanding the unique intricacies of the college admissions landscape.

I’m thrilled to be at an institution that allows me to continue mentoring students in an all-girls environment, where young women are supported in their academic growth and are encouraged to discover and develop their individual potential. I am committed to helping each student realize her educational and professional goals and developing several different pathways to arrive at the same destination. Working with each student to identify her strengths, both within and beyond the classroom, is an exciting piece of the college counseling puzzle and I look forward to partnering with you and your daughters as they discover their passions and talents.

Alverno Heights Academy provides an environment that inspires and enables its students to thrive and succeed, and I am ecstatic that my time has come to officially join the Alverno Heights family. The commitment to excellence and overwhelming school spirit immediately drew me to Alverno Heights and made the decision to oversee the College Counseling Office a very easy one. Partnering with a group of colleagues who are so dedicated to the success of each individual student and working with a student body who is so committed to upholding the values and ideals of their school is an opportunity I feel fortunate to pursue.

I would love to hear from you about your experiences, expectations, and goals for college counseling here at Alverno Heights Academy. You can contact me anytime at (626) 355-3463 ext. 229 or mroyal@alvernoheights.org. I will be on campus beginning Monday, August 5 when the school is back open from summer break. I would love to meet with you on your college admission process – let’s take advantage of this time together before the hustle and bustle of the school year begins!

Senior Families: To make sure our Class of 2020 girls are prepped and ready for their upcoming college application season, it is essential that we meet as a family. I am requiring that each Senior family set-up a time to meet with me in August/September to go over some of the essential pieces of the process (confirming college lists, early application deadlines, essays, standardized testing, financial aid, etc.). This will help us all be on the same page of where your daughter is at in the process and provide me an opportunity to know how I can best support her individual needs in the process. Please feel free to reach out to me so we can set-up a time to meet.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to meeting and collaborating with you and your family very soon.

Sincerely,

Melissa Royal

Director of College Counseling
