Last week, Alverno Heights Academy welcomed students from our Japanese sister school Uekusa Gakuen. Together, students from both schools exchanged a small part of what life is like in their hometowns and in their respective cultures. After opening with some fun dancing ice breakers our Alverno student leaders led campus tours. Each guest then met their Alverno buddy for the day and they exchanged gifts! The young women from Japan brought some traditional Japanese treats for our students to enjoy and our students passed on gifts representative of things they love!
To end the day, both schools gave performances including the Advanced Theater Showcase’s performance of Lala Land’s Another Day of Sun and an American Sign Language (ASL) performance of A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman. Uekusa Gakuen students performed a popular Japanese dance and shared with the community activities where they taught Alverno students origami, dressed them in traditional kimonos, wrote their names in beautiful Japanese calligraphy characterand they served miso soup! It was a immersive and joyful day for our entire community!
