On January 26, the Alverno Jaguars hosted the Bishop Conaty-Loretto Wildcats at the Glendale Sports Complex.  Senior midfielder Jazmin Rebollo’s (19) had a hat trick in the Jaguars’ 6-0 victory.

Rebollo made her presence known early in the match with an unassisted goal in the 3rd minute.  In the 13th minute, Rebollo drove the ball along the sideline to find team co-captain junior forward Megan Cavender (22) in the penalty box.  Cavender’s goal gave the Jaguars a 2-0 lead.  Cavender returned the favor in the 18th minute when Rebollo converted Cavender’s corner kick for a goal.  In the 36th minute, sophomore forward Natalee Guerra (12) saved a ball from going out of bounds at the goal line to assist Cavender in her second goal of the game and give the Jaguars a 4-0 lead going into halftime.

The Wildcats defense held up against the Jaguars attack in the second half, allowing only 1 corner kick (compared to 3 corner kicks in the first half).  But team co-captain senior midfielder Ally Mercado (8) took advantage of a ball misplayed by the defense in the 65th minute for a goal to give the Jaguars a 5-0 goal.  In the 71st minute, team co-captain junior midfielder Beatriz Rivas (16) found Rebollo to her right, and Rebollo scored for the hat trick and the 6-0 victory.

Senior midfielder Natalie Scigliano (5) and junior defender Elisia Bendy (2) combined with Rebollo, Cavender, Rivas, and Mercado for the Jaguars’ 17 shots on goal.  The Jaguars starting backline of senior Nikki Oberhammer (17), Bendy, sophomore Danielle Heltsley (15), and freshman Helen Abascal (3) did not allow a shot and goal or a corner kick.  Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Mercado (0) recorded her seventh clean slate of the season.

The Jaguars improve their record to 6-1 (8-6 overall) and will face San Gabriel Mission at the Glendale Sports Complex on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
