Alverno Heights Academy’s Basketball and Soccer Teams Get a “Blessed” Start

As their official league seasons get underway, the Alverno Heights Academy Basketball and Soccer teams had their jerseys blessed as a part of the annual “Blessing of the Jerseys” on Monday morning.

The prayer service was organized by Alverno Heights Academy’s Campus Ministry team and Campus Minister, Ms. Katharine Guerrero. At the beginning of the prayer service, Campus Ministry welcomed the entire school community and explained the purpose of “Blessing of the Jerseys” and encouraged the Alverno community to come out and support the Jaguars during the winter season.

Each team then brought up their jerseys to be blessed for a successful season filled with great competition, sportsmanship, and of course, one free of injuries. Both teams also received a small reminder of their promise and commitment to their teams that they could to attach to their athletic bags.

“Blessing of the Jerseys is such a wonderful way for these teams to begin their Horizon League seasons,” said Julia V. Fanara, Head of School. “The level of commitment and dedication these young women display is a testament not only to their athletic interests but also their dedication to Alverno. We are so proud of them and the way they truly act as empowered women on and off the field and court. We look forward to another successful year of Alverno Athletics. Go Jaguars!”

The Jaguar Basketball teams will play their next games on Tuesday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Ramona Convent Secondary School at 1701 West Ramona Road in Alhambra.

The Jaguar Soccer team will play their next game tomorrow, January 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Glendale Sports Complex at 2200 Fern Lane in Glendale.
