Alverno Heights Academy Seeks High School Males for
Spring Production of The Drowsy Chaperone
Alverno Heights Academy is excited to announce open auditions for high school males for their spring production of The Drowsy Chaperone. The show will run April 26, 27, and 28.
The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan; as she plays the record of her favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record plays, the show comes to life onstage as she wryly comments on the music, story, and actors.
For their upcoming production, Alverno Heights Academy is in search of high school males for members of the ensemble as well as the following roles:
The groom-to-be who is deeply in love with Janet. He is the token 1920s leading man – debonair, dashing, and a matinee idol. He is cheesy, cheerful, and optimistic.
Latin lothario. A womanizer who is very impressed with himself. He is confident, vigorous, and a buffoon. Vaudeville-style acting and fake Spanish/Italian accent required. Should have great comic timing.
Robert’s anxious best man. He is loyal, sincere, and nervous. Makes looking out for Robert’s interests his top priority so that the wedding will come off without a hitch.
Vocal auditions will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and dance auditions will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For vocal auditions, please bring 32 bars of sheet music from a Broadway musical. In order to be considered for a role, actors must attend both days of the audition. Auditions and show rehearsals will be held at Alverno Heights Academy at 200 North Michillinda Avenue, Sierra Madre, CA 91024. Guests must check-in at the Front Office prior to auditioning and provide proof of current enrollment (i.e. identification card) at a local high school.
