The National Honor Society Lends a Hand
A blog by Ms. Sandy Bogan, Spanish Department and National Honor Society Moderator
The credo of the National Honor Society is community service and our members have always generously dedicated themselves to serving others in our community. Whether they arrive at school at 7:00 A.M. to tutor or stay after school long after all other students have gone, they cheerfully step in whenever there is an opportunity to be of service.
This past Christmas, as in many previous years, our NHS members participated in raising funds for the Salvation Army. This event has become an NHS tradition and has earned the gratitude and praise of its organizers. Alverno has been recognized as one of the most successful high school volunteer groups in terms of donations received. Each year on a Saturday morning before Christmas, our students dress in their formal uniform accessorized with with all kinds of Christmas themed fashions which may include reindeer hats, red gloves and scarves, Christmas lights necklaces and even colorful Christmas socks as they prepare to spread some Christmas cheer!
They look very professional and cheerful as they sing Christmas carols in front of the Vons and Pavilions in South Pasadena. Their enthusiasm is so contagious that passersby often feel compelled to donate to these joyful bell ringers.
We at Alverno Heights Academy are very proud and grateful for the way our National Honor Society members represent our school in our community. Very well done ladies!
